Matthew Smith- The Inspiration

To know Matthew was to know what helping and caring for one another was all about. Whether it was his tireless work running the Make-A-Wish Golf Tournament or volunteering his days for the Kids Muster at Endicott Park, Matt's dedication to helping others was inspiring.

In an effort to continue the work Mathew started with Make- A- Wish and Billy’s Buddies, the Danvers Firefighters Association & LOCAL 2038 are proud to present the 3rd Annual Matt Smith Memorial Golf Tournament . This exceptional event promises to be a fun day of golf filled with tall tales of amazing golf shots and plentiful laughs to benefit the Matthew Smith Memorial Fund. 100% of the proceeds from this event will go directly to benefit Smitty's Fund which provides support to a variety if causes and charities such as Impact Melanoma. This charity was one close to Matthew and is one of the many the reasons we are honoring him and continuing his efforts through this event.

Matthew himself was Taken from us far too early, on March 8, 2012 at the young age of 45 by Melanoma. Matt was one of those people who had a presence you could feel and see when he entered a room, he was truly one of the best people you would ever meet. Not only because of his personality but because of his commitment and caring for others. Matthew led a life of example as a loving father, loyal friend and coveted husband. Those who knew Matt were truly better off for having known him.

Matt served as a professional firefighter for the Town of Danvers during which time he participated in many fund raising and charity events. Matt was also the chairperson and driving force behind an Annual Golf Tournament to benefit the Make a wish foundation for many years and also participated in numerous other charity tournaments and fund raising events throughout the region. Matt’s fundraising efforts continued even after his passing when his wishes were to make donations to Billys’ Buddies and the Melanoma foundation of New England in Lieu of flowers. Simply matt, yet again showing us how important giving to charity is.

We ask that you too follow in the footsteps of Matthew as either a donor, sponsor or participant to benefit this great cause. Don't be shy, Get in on the giving NOW !
